Ellie Maguire was born 19th February 1917 in Chinchilla. She was the youngest of twelve children, five boys and seven girls. Ellie’s mother passed away in 1918 and she and her siblings were all reared by her father. Her parents had moved from Mt Morgan where her where her father was employed in the gold mines. They moved into a slab hut at Haystack where they lived for many years. Later. A weatherboard house was built on the same property and her father was in the dairy farming industry.
Ellie is the oldest living pupil from Haystack school and recently attended the reunion of the school at Warra with the Governor of Queensland Ms Quentin Bryce in attendance.
Ellie met and married Clem Manteit and had three children Clem and his brother built their weatherboard home at 87 High Street Jandowae and owns the house to this day. Ellie moved into Taralga in December 2007 and is a most popular and much loved resident.
