The Goebbels Diaries, entry for 2nd February 1942. The extraordinary overestimation of rhetoric also finds vivid expression in an entry two days earlier covering Hitler's same speech:

'The address made a tremendous impression . .. we may now rest assured that the main psychological difficulties have been overcome ... The Führer has charged the entire nation as though it were a storage battery.'
