Note 032
by Joachim C. Fest

The Goebbels Diaries, entry for 2nd March 1943:

'It is tragic that the Fuhrer has become such a recluse and leads such an unhealthy life. He never gets out into the fresh air. He does not relax. He sits in his bunker, worries and broods.'

Hitler's contempt for facts is also repeatedly emphasized by other sources. When Rudolf Diels once referred to 'the objective falsehood of his premises', Hitler replied, Then I must seek other premises' (Diels, 'Lucifer ante portas'). See also Speer's evidence at Nuremberg, IMT, XVI; and Weizsacker, 'Memoirs':

'It seemed as though he could forget facts or contradict them as occasion demanded.'
