10. ADDRESS BY NEW PRESIDENT
Darryl Donald noted the need for change, and a widening of interests of the committee, following such success with Athlone Cottage, and he hoped to be able to provide this broader perspective, especially in the light of the Council amalgamations and changes in the town and district.
With the changes in the Council, Darryl noted the need for close liaison with the Council, and that, with the centralisation of councils, community groups are of even greater importance for the town.
11. ADDRESS BY COUNCILLOR MICK COSGROVE
Councillor Mick Cosgrove spoke highly of the way in which the amalgamation and the new council was working. He mentioned the possibility of the council elections being shifted from March to October, for a variety of reasons.
Councillor Mick addressed the changes occurring in the area, namely the potential of mines opening up in the area, and ruining the best agricultural land around. The council is planning to draw up a map to be provided to the State Government, showing the best agricultural land, and advising of the stupidity of mining there.
Nathan Dam is appearing to go ahead, which should help alleviate the water problems in many towns in the district, as there will be a pipeline down to those towns.
He commented that a council structural engineer was going to look at the Baker’s Oven at Athlone Cottage, and provide a recommendation (rebuilding or condemnation) about the building.
Councillor Mick also reassured the committee that support received from Wambo Shire Council is likely to continue under Dalby Regional Council, including the insurance policy. (Paul Smith contacted council, as yet, this has not come up before the council – it will in the next meeting).
Dalby Regional Council is in the process of petitioning the State Government for a name change.
12. VOTE OF THANKS
Ros Balston thanked Peter Ireland for being the chairman, especially at such short notice.
13. CLOSE
