7. PRESIDENT’S REPORT
The President, Darryl Donald, presented this report.
The Association has expanded its interests, with the business group and involvement in a youth committee. The aim of the youth committee is to engage local school kids in the community. They have been responsible for running two blue-light discos, for example.
The business branch is organising the “shop local” campaign, and has produced a business/community group directory.
Much work has been done on Athlone Cottage, including finishing the ramp, various repairs to the buildings and the windmill, the upgrade of the shearer’s quarters, which is ongoing, with the aim being to open them on Australia Day next year, and the addition of shelving to the dairy. We received a Powerlink grant, which was used to clean out the creek and build a rock wall along the bank, managed by Ian Gall and Peter Ireland. Darryl thanked all of the volunteers who help out at the site.
Jan Bickerton organised catering successfully for a number of events, including the Australia Day function last year, and running nachos stalls at various functions. Many thanks to her and her team; and to the Council for their assistance with funding at the Australia Day event last year.
There is still a need to expand the area down at the cottage, and it would be ideal if we could get the land next door somehow. We are looking into getting a cottage (the old Stewart cottage?) off Terry Sand’s place, to be used for storage and office space.
Vince’s brochure has been well received throughout the area. Many thanks to him and the Council for the work and funding.
Vicki Warden has come out to the area twice to help with setting up the cottage and give advice on displays and preservation of articles and so forth.
We are grateful for all of the projects completed by the Council, such as the Memorial Hall acoustics and air-conditioning; disabled access to the pool; the respite care centre and so forth. We look forward to continued liaison with the council.
Darryl thanked Ros, Jan, Violy, Shauna and the many volunteers who have been involved with the group.
Moved by Ros Balston that report
be accepted as read; seconded by Vince Scouller. CARRIED.
8. ELECTION OF OFFICE BEARERS
Ed Hoffman took the role of chair. He had praise for the committees at Jandowae, stating that the Council works through the local committees and people.
The council has talked with people out at Wandoan, where there is a similar issue with trucks travelling back and forth through town to the scales. It has been suggested that local committees and groups should send letters to Grain Co about rucks going through town and the workplace health and safety risk they can present.
There is ongoing development across the whole region, and we need to be active and get the developer’s attention.
Chairman Ed Hoffman declared all positions of the Jandowae Progress & Heritage Association Inc. vacant and called for nominations.

He also mentioned that the Council has done it’s best to go out to local towns as much as they can, to which Darryl responded how much we appreciated it and the need to make use of the Councillors when they come out here each month.
