Gert Buchheit's interpretation within the framework of his study ' Hitler der Feldherr' is certainly more reserved; according to this

'the German Army ... only scored military successes for as long as Hitler's activity as a field marshal remained minimal'.

For the opposite point of view see for example Alan Bullock, Hitler, who tends to overestimate Hitler's military talents. Numerous opinions have been expressed on this question. In the majority of cases they reflect scepticism and support the point of view represented here.
