General Business:
Australia Day Breakfast 2023 — we need to look at increasing the charge for the breakfast as this year we ran at a loss. Heather is to approach the WDRC to provide funding for this event as we are conducting a community social occasion.
Security Lights need upgrading and Michael Wood will install lights that would only come on after dark.
Workers from WDRC under the direction of Cameron Gooley have painted and sanded the 2 seats in the grounds, rescued the foot valve from the creek and cleaned up the creek bank with a weed eater.
Peter is to make arrangements to cover the Jandowae East School display with suitable blinds.
Jade Por requested that our association apply for a grant to erect signs on the old businesses in the town. Jade would undertake the necessary work to do this. While it is a great idea, we feel that this is beyond our scope. A grant of the size envisaged would mean a hefty bill to have our books audited. The meeting recommended that Jade approach the Jandowae Business group.
Don Blinco has acquired a wooden statue of Ned Kelly which was produced at the Timbertown festival. Don has kindly donated this statue to the Heritage precinct. Don and Peter will decide on a suitable spot to install Ned Kelly. A structure would need to be erected to preserve the statue which 2.4m high, 2.1m across and 700 deep.
Our buildings are open by appointment. There are notices at the Show Grounds and Library.
Our precinct was visited by Shaz Shanessey and the Gooderham sisters this morning. They were given access to many of our resources as they are preparing for the Jandowae Our Town Reunion next June long weekend. Shaz is over-seeing the production of a suitable publication to mark the occasion.
The annual meeting will be held on Saturday 8th October at 9am. Councillor Peter Saxelby will be asked to chair the meeting.
